North American Indigenous and First Nations Peoples

This subcategory gathers indigenous peoples of North America documented by a distinct language, kinship system, and traditional territory, including the Cherokee, Navajo (Dine), and Inuit of the Arctic, alongside the Metis, a documented mixed-ancestry people with its own recognized culture rather than a simple blend of two others. It does not cover the intentional religious communities of North America, such as the Amish and Hutterites, which are carried under Diasporic, Religious and Modern Social Formations because their defining feature is a shared chosen practice rather than indigenous ancestry and territory.
