Structuralism and Poststructuralism

Theories analyzing society and culture as systems of underlying structures and relations, most directly Claude Levi-Strauss structuralism and his alliance theory of kinship as a system of exchange relations between groups, and poststructuralism, the later critique and revision of structuralist claims to fixed underlying structure. Belongs here: a theory built on an underlying-structure or systems-of-relations model, whether affirming or critiquing structuralism's own premises. Does not belong here: a theory of interpretive meaning-making without a structuralist framework, grouped under Interpretive and Ritual Theory in Anthropology.
