Annette Patricia Lareau is a sociologist, born in 1952, working at the University of Pennsylvania. She has completed extensive field work studying the daily lives of African American and European American families and is credited with coining the term concerted cultivation, describing a middle class child rearing style she found differs from the accomplishment of natural growth approach she found among parents in working class families.
