bell hooks

Gloria Jean Watkins, better known by her pen name bell hooks, was an American philosopher, educator, author and social critic, born in 1952, and a Distinguished Professor in Residence at Berea College in Kentucky. She wrote about race, feminism and social class, exploring the intersections of race, capitalism and gender and their ability to produce and perpetuate systems of oppression and class domination, work that became foundational to the modern idea of intersectionality. She published numerous scholarly articles and nearly forty books, ranging from essays and poetry to children's literature, addressing love, gender, art, history, sexuality and mass media. She died in 2021.
