Elijah Anderson is an American sociologist and Stockholm Prize laureate for his research in criminology, currently the Sterling Professor of Sociology and of Black Studies at Yale University, where he directs the Urban Ethnography Project; he is one of the leading urban ethnographers and cultural theorists in the United States. He taught at Swarthmore College before joining the University of Pennsylvania faculty, where he taught for thirty two years, rising from assistant professor to the Charles and William Day Distinguished Professor by 1995, before joining the Yale faculty in 2007 and being named Sterling Professor in 2018.
