Grace Riestra Claire Davie is a British sociologist, born in 1946, who serves as professor emerita of sociology at the University of Exeter. She is best known for her book Religion in Britain Since 1945: Believing Without Belonging, which introduced the influential concept of believing without belonging to describe the pattern, common in modern Britain and much of Europe, in which people continue to hold religious beliefs and identify with a religious tradition while rarely attending church or otherwise formally belonging to a religious institution.
