Howard Winant is an American sociologist and race theorist, born in 1946, who is Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is best known for developing the theory of racial formation together with Michael Omi, and his research and teaching address race and racism, comparative historical sociology, political sociology, social theory and human rights.
