Mitchell Duneier

Mitchell Duneier is an American sociologist and ethnographer, Maurice P. During Professor and department chair of sociology at Princeton University, who earned his doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1992. His first book, Slim's Table: Race, Respectability, and Masculinity, won the 1994 American Sociological Association award for distinguished scholarly publication; he later wrote Sidewalk (1999), winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the C. Wright Mills Award, and Ghetto: The Invention of a Place, the History of an Idea (2016), named a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of the Year. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2021.
