Nan Lin is a sociologist, born in 1938 in Chongqing, China, who holds the Oscar L. Tang Family Professorship of Sociology at Duke University. He is best known for his research on social networks and social capital, developing an influential theory of how individuals access and mobilize resources embedded in their social relationships to achieve better social and economic outcomes.
