Sudhir Alladi Venkatesh is an American sociologist and urban ethnographer, born in 1966, who has held the William B. Ransford professorship of sociology and African American studies at Columbia University since 1999. His research has studied gangs and underground economies, public housing, advertising and technology; he is the author of Gang Leader for a Day: A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets (2008) and hosts the podcast Sudhir Breaks the Internet. He has also held positions at Facebook and Twitter.
