Thomas Luckmann

Thomas Luckmann was a German sociologist of Slovenian origin best known as the co-author, with Peter L. Berger, of The Social Construction of Reality (1966), a foundational text of social constructionism that traced how everyday reality is built up and maintained through habitualized human activity and institutionalization. Trained in the phenomenological tradition of Alfred Schutz, Luckmann brought a rigorous phenomenological method to sociology, and his own later work in the sociology of religion, including the concept of invisible religion, examined how meaning-making and transcendence persist in secularized modern societies outside traditional religious institutions.
