Vivek Chibber

Vivek Aslam Chibber is an American sociologist, born in 1965, who is a professor of sociology at New York University and a social theorist writing on development, social theory and politics. His books include Locked in Place: State-Building and Late Industrialization in India (2003), Postcolonial Theory and the Specter of Capital (2013), which argues that postcolonial theory's rejection of universalist categories from classical Marxism and Enlightenment social science is mistaken, and The Class Matrix: Social Theory after the Cultural Turn (2022). In 2017 he launched Catalyst: A Journal of Theory and Strategy with Robert Brenner.
